Progressive Die Stamping of a Copper Alloy Lead Frame for the Passive Component Industry

General Stamping Company was approached by a customer in the electronic industry to provide high volume progressive die stamping of this copper alloy leadframe. Designed for use in the passive component industry, the run required a high level of precision.

Our engineering team designed multiple-cavity carbide tooling, which we fabricated in-house to ensure that the parts would remain within specification for the entire production run. Half-hard 110 copper alloy, measuring only 0.006" thick, was pre-plated with a matte nickel overall under 100% matte tin overall to meet both RoHS specifications and the thermal and electrical conductivity requirements of the part.

Utilizing our 18 ton high speed Bruderer press, the .006" x 1.100" x .500" parts were progressive die stamped reel-to-reel. A protective paper was inserted in process to maintain the surface finish during packaging and shipping. Both set-up inspection and careful in-process batch control ensured that the quality and dimensional integrity of the parts met the high standards this job required.
